We all now that if you’re a good poker player the rewards can range from lots of cash, a new car , holidays, etc.  But what about gambling your way to becoming President of the USA?
In an article I recently read it was reported that former USA President Richard Nixon funded his 1946 Congress run with the winnings he earned playing poker, whilst serving in the US Navy during World War II.
However, as his career progressed he decided to quit playing poker as he deemed it not fitting of a Presidential candidate or even President.
In his autobiography Nixon actually wrote: “I learned that the people who have the cards are usually the ones who talk the least and the softest; those who are bluffing tend to talk loudly and give themselves away.”

The Corn Exchange in Edinburgh is set to be the August venue for the UKIPT (UK & Ireland Poker Tour). It will start Thursday the 19th and run through to the 22nd.
As a bonus to the tournament the organisers have cleverly scheduled the competition to coincide with the Edinburgh Festival so the City should be a hive of activity. So, should you be unfortunate enough to be knocked early they’ll be plenty of comedy, theatre and music to keep you entertained.
The tournament itself is a £500 No Limit Hold’em and will have a prize pool of over £250,000. So if you fancy your chances get to Edinburgh for the 19th August. It’s a fantastic City and with the Festival in full flow the atmosphere will be electric.

Betfair iphone app

Posted by Alan | Gambling | Sunday 1 August 2010 10:40 am

Those of you who own an Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch can now access the world of sports betting on your devices.
The online bookmaker Betfair is the first established betting company to be allowed to introduce such an application for these wonderful sports betting gadgets. There had previously been rigorous restrictions set in place by Apple which prevented such gambling applications. However, Betfair was permitted to introduce their app in May 2010, just in time for the summer World Cup tournament. The product will offer the same core exchange as the official betfair website.
It will only be available to punters in the UK and Ireland and will use the internal GPS of the devices to verify the users location before they can place their bets, ensuring they haven’t been boarder-hopping with their gambling habits.
For more information and reviews visit the Apple Store.
