There are lots of rumours that Warren Cloud the casino tycoon is dead but no one has proved this yet. It is said that he had a massive heart attack whilst on a boating trip in the Spanish area of Ibiza. If all the speculation is actually true it will be the end of an era and the end of the most flamboyant and controversial casino owners ever involved with online gambling.

I think the proof was in the pudding as over the past 20 years, Cloud used many different names, he struggled originally with high debts and other problems but bossed his way through to a great career. Once the dodgy start was over he invented or took on the “Real Time Gambling software” and nobody had seen this before and it revolutionized the whole gambling industry over night.

His gambling world traded under many aliases like Crystal Palace, The lounge, The High Rollers Lounge and  the ever known Golden Nile Casino. He was never charged or arrested for any of his dodgy dealings and even changed the market by opening a casino in Costa Rica against a lot of complaints. So as you can imagine he was not every-ones cup of tea but if the rumours are true we have lost a character who is larger than life from the industry.

As the WSOP climax draws to an end the days play on Friday concentrated on match 45, the match was a $50,000 “H.O.R.S.E.” World Championship. Friday was the day it started and it has 148 entrants including some of the best known names in the game. There were some really slow players to begin with but when the field got down to 140, the match livened up.

As all the pressure began to mount Lyle Berman announced he was a front runner for the game as he was the first to break the 500,000 with the amount of chips he had. The next 2 were Patrick Bueno & Barry Greenstein and not it was showing that the chip leaders were the main players in the poker world. When the play came to a close on the first day of the 4 day match the names Minh Ly, Chris Reslock & Joseph Michael were all still clinging on in the game.

There was a downside to this normally lime light hogging event that normally eclipses everything around, and it was the fact that 2 other great events are still running. So is this event having the same affect as normal? We will find out in the next three days.

Three gamblers today walked in to a casino in Vegas and won over $1000000 dollars each, nobody knows whether it was a scam or a genuine play.

The casinos are looking into the wins or should we call them  scams.

All we know so far is they won the money in the games of Texas hold em and black jack.

Not surprisingly the dealers are being grilled and asked all the questions about the wins.

I’m hoping that the wins are genuine and the winners will be back to show how they did it but speculation says its a scam.

Watch this space to check about anything i hear about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So today the world of poker has seen a new king of poker wake up with his pocket full of cash.

Its me! I hosted a poker last night between 18 people winner takes all, at good old Texas hold em, the entry fee was 20 quid each with a total prize of £360.

I played really aggressive all night and dominated everybody that i came up against even taking down a straight with a flush which was the final hand of the night and it took a 20 minute decision fro the looser John to make.

So today, i wake as king of Texas hold em, its a little trophy we have every year between the same 18 guys who have played together for 10 years and I have won it for the first time ever. Even more importantly i take home the biggest cash pot to date as the entry fee started out at £2 and was upped £2 every year plus we rounded it off to £20 this year.

David woo is a pro poker player, and he will always have in his mind yesterday as the first massive moment in his career, it was the day he scooped his 1st WSOP solid gold bracelet. Woo with this win scooped a massive $631,550 in cash at the 39th match of the 2008 WSOP. Even though it was not an easy match.

Strangely the $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Holdem match got the 2nd largest amount of players at the WSOP 2008 so far. There were 2,722 players which amassed a prize of $3,712,800 which in turn let the runners of the show distribute the prize money to 270 poker players, but it was David woo who made it count.

There was a pro called Thom Werthmann who began the final day of event 39 in the chip lead on the 3 day match with 1,600,021 in chips compared to Woo’s 1,090,010, even though Thom Werthmann has won a bracelet in the past at the wsop he failed to impress on his early work and came in a disappointing 5th. You have to be really lucky to win at the 3 day events or have the skill of the best poker players in the world to complete everything and win, but then again the wsop would not give away at bracelet!!

There is a new proposal out there that has been taken with differing opinions but it still seems that the plans for Star City Casino are almost complete. There have also been motions to build a shopping mall with hotel/casino within, which will host a tunnel leading to a harbour. But even better as Australia is so warm so often the move will see the largest outdoor casino ever which eradicate the smoking ban issue. Probably making it the most possible casino in the world.

The smoking area idea has got the most press coverage so far but the cost of the whole project is still at the for front as it will cost around AUS$300 million. It will be a five star hotel which will have 302 rooms and a shopping centre which will house everything everyone needs to buy before a days gambling.

All the relevant authorities are leaning heavily towards the venture and there are the idea will be seen very very soon. It is to be seen whether or not this will spring up thousands of new underground shopping malls with casinos for smokers but it is a very clever way to catch the industry when the smoking ban takes over.

While the US economy has its ongoing struggle, there are rumours of more casino and card players doing scams on the Las Vegas Strip. Even though all casinos on the strip are all equipped with CCTV in each area of their casinos the scammers are making it more and more tricky to catch in the act. The casinos will not confirm how much or how many cases have taken place, there is speculation that it is getting larger and larger on a daily basis. The size of fraud prevention and incidents by the authorities has massively grown over the past 90 days as lots of people are willing to to throw down the gauntlet.

This has arrived at a bad time for the casino industry who in turn have seen a substantial rise in bad debts since the beginning of the year with lots more customers being dragged to court and prosecuted. While monies are being stretched & many expansion delayed or stopped altogether, there are hundreds of motions which are leaning towards online gambling rather than casino gambling.

The proof is there that the casino attendances are dropping all over the US but the prospect for the industry is good as the financial crisis is affecting everyone but casinos should survive.

Following his very public grudge with one of the leading casino owners in America, and the repayment of monies owed with the settlement of a fine to the poker authorities, Charles Barkley is back losing at the tables again. Everybody had thought that the self proclaimed voice of the people would never play again in public when he gambled away $400,000 so why on earth is he doing it all again?

Well gratefully for the casino owners and Charles he is only back to play in a one off celebrity poker event called Ante Up for Africa. The match has been going for quite a few years and will always raise literally hundreds of thousands of pounds for amazing charities in Africa. Last year alone it was found that $700,000 was donated and this year hopes to top it.

Barkley was one of many celebs and with him were Jason Kidd, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck all trying to gamble for charity but it was all about the charities and not the poker for some. So has the infamous ‘mouth’ gone against his promise to give up gambling? Well im saying not, because Charles Barkley agreed to donate all that he wins to the charities.
