We all now that if you’re a good poker player the rewards can range from lots of cash, a new car , holidays, etc.  But what about gambling your way to becoming President of the USA?
In an article I recently read it was reported that former USA President Richard Nixon funded his 1946 Congress run with the winnings he earned playing poker, whilst serving in the US Navy during World War II.
However, as his career progressed he decided to quit playing poker as he deemed it not fitting of a Presidential candidate or even President.
In his autobiography Nixon actually wrote: “I learned that the people who have the cards are usually the ones who talk the least and the softest; those who are bluffing tend to talk loudly and give themselves away.”

The Corn Exchange in Edinburgh is set to be the August venue for the UKIPT (UK & Ireland Poker Tour). It will start Thursday the 19th and run through to the 22nd.
As a bonus to the tournament the organisers have cleverly scheduled the competition to coincide with the Edinburgh Festival so the City should be a hive of activity. So, should you be unfortunate enough to be knocked early they’ll be plenty of comedy, theatre and music to keep you entertained.
The tournament itself is a £500 No Limit Hold’em and will have a prize pool of over £250,000. So if you fancy your chances get to Edinburgh for the 19th August. It’s a fantastic City and with the Festival in full flow the atmosphere will be electric.

Posted by Alan | poker | Tuesday 8 December 2009 5:14 pm

Christmas is coming, and our wallets are feeling anything BUT fat! Most of us have been feeling the pinch all year, and Christmas has made that pinch feel even worse! The festive season is the time of year when the party invites will be dropping in you inbox thick and fast, which also adds to money woes.

There are many ways of enjoying Christmas without spending the earth this year, and you can have just as much fun indoors as you can have down the local pub.

If you’re looking for a way of winding down this Christmas Eve, but don’t fancy paying extortionate entrance fees to pubs and clubs, why not get your mates round and indulge in a few cheeky games of poker.

Whether you’re playing for fun or playing for a couple of quid, it’s the perfect way of relaxing with your buddies over a couple of beers- provided that you don’t get carried away and make a drunken and expensive decision that you may later come to regret!

Even if your mates haven’t played poker before, pretty much anyone can pick up the rules quickly, although the poker face may be a bit more difficult to perfect!

The night is sure to be a success, and don’t forget to give the lads their Christmas cards on the way out!

Playing Poker in a Bad Mood

Posted by jw | poker | Thursday 26 February 2009 8:48 am

You should not do or play a game of Casino Poker if you are in a (basically) low mood. In fact, it’s better you DO NOT play it when mad, sad or ultimately in a generally bad mood. The way you feel can seriously affect your playing and the overall situation. That is, fellow player may scan your mood, and that’s so not good.

Why? Because your bad mood can in fact help someone else win. In other words, if the other Poker players notice your bad mood, they will indeed take (perhaps full) advantage of it, only so as to win the game. Thereby, just avoid playing Poker when feeling sad, mad or bad. Do not play Poker when depressed or when really annoyed.

The way you feel can impact your playing, which means you can either lose most of your money (or chips) or someone else can win just because you happen to be feeling sad, or mad. It’s pretty much the same even when you are sick. Do not enter a game of Casino Poker if sick, if not feeling well. Playing Poker will not improve it.

Or in other words, if you are sick (a cold, for instance) or if not well, it’s would be foolish to enter a game of Casino Poker. It would be silly, because a game of good old Casino Poker will most certainly not improve anything. A game of Casino Poker will not by any means help you get better. It’s better you stay at home and get better.

Playing Loads of Poker Hands

Posted by jw | poker | Sunday 22 February 2009 8:48 am

Want to become a far better Poker player? Want to become one really fast? By following several quite useful Poker tricks and tips, there’s no doubt you will become a far better Poker gamer or player. Basically, it is said that the more you practise something, the far more experienced you get. Hence, it’s the same with Poker.

First and foremost, it’s pretty much advisable and recommended not to play every hand. Come to that, the No. 1 Mistake most beginners or most Poker beginners make is actually that they play far too many hands. Of course, playing too many hands can be rather complicated, meaning it’s quite foolish to be doing lots of hands.

You might wondering, Why would playing more than a few hands be silly? Basically, it is quite simple: When you are just starting out playing Poker, you might think the game’s too easy, then a get a bit (too!) ambitious and start playing (too!) many hands. But still, playing more (hands) does not necessarily mean winning more.

But in contrary, playing more hands (especially if you are a Poker newbie and thus unready) usually and in most situations means losing more. A lot more, that is. Because of that, it’s rather recommended you practise a bit before you decide on doing more hands. In order to play more Poker hands, you ought to be experienced.

King of Poker (Useful Tips)

Posted by jw | poker | Tuesday 10 February 2009 8:46 am

In order to become a better Poker gamer or player, you should really (seriously) avoid making certain mistakes, like bluffing solely or simply for bluffing’s sake, or doing Poker when drunk. Just avoid doing these two things, and you will surely become a better Poker gamer, perhaps even win a huge amount of (chips) money.

Why avoid playing Poker when drunk? Well, it’s easy: Because it’s too risky. In fact, doing Poker when drunk can be quite dangerous. To put it rather bluntly, it’s a fact that you might (most possibly) get plastered silly and throw away the entire stack of chips! That is, the giant stack you won or earned a couple of minutes (hours?) ago.

We have all been that “plastered” or “silly” Poker gamer, and there certainly were nights where you just playing with your friends for pretty low stakes, and it’s really more about the fun of playing it, than the Poker itself. Thus, if in a Casino, you better watch the alcohol. No matter how madly you could use a sip, simply ignore alcohol.

The truth is, whilst you might (or might not) be relaxed after a drink or two, it may possibly lead to you (i.e. the gamer) playing more looser or less sharply, even if you think you are not “drunk”. It’s better you have a soda or a glass (only one!) of wine. The more sober and concentrated you remain, the higher your chances of winning!

Gain Experience in Poker with Practice

Posted by Alan | poker | Friday 6 February 2009 8:45 am

Nowadays, some people say Poker is a game of chance and luck. Others say it’s a game of concentration and focus. It’s a fact that the latter is the most probable. Yes, Poker is a game where you should by all means be concentrated and focused. That is, if you truly want to win. If not, you can just play it for the sake of playing it for fun.

But still, when it comes to playing Poker in a Casino, a UK-based Casino or one of those glittering Casinos in Las Vegas, you must focus and you must concentrate, which means being fully ready and experienced. Yet, in order to become an experienced Poker gamer or player, you must practise. As practice makes perfect.

There’s a great number of websites that features free Poker games, and by playing these Online Poker games every once in a while, you can become a proficient and experienced Poker gamer. Through practice, you are to become a better Poker player. Thus, it’s possible you will be fully ready to enter The World of Casino Poker!

Apart from practising Online, you can also play real Poker. That is, Online. There’s a large deal of sites that offer numberless benefits regarding Online Poker. Of course, there’s always a Jackpot. The Ultimate Win. You can win a great amount of money by just playing Online Poker. You see, Online Poker is just another playing option.

Thinking Fast and Playing Quick (Expertise in Poker)

Posted by Alan | poker | Wednesday 14 January 2009 8:43 am

During a game of Poker, you must think fast and react quick. That is, if you want to win that ultimate amount of money or (at least) become a better Poker player. Recent research has shown that Poker is mostly about concentration and focus during the play, which means you need to focus and remain alert (concentrated) during the play.

But also, apart from remaining concentrated during a game of Casino Poker, it’s also beneficial if you “scan” or analyse other people’s “tells” during a Poker game. A tell is a sign which denotes whether the other players are actually bluffing or not. These tells can say a lot about someone else’s (Poker) hands, and that’s quite beneficial.

It’s beneficial because it will most possibly help you win, or at least play better. Thus, it’s important that you scan other people’s body “tells” and see whether you should make your move. Drinking is not an option when it comes to Casino Poker. When drunk, it’s pretty hard to be (or remain) concentrated and it’s a lot harder to focus.

By and large, Poker is said to be a game that can last like forever. But it’s not anything like that. Despite the fact that Poker may or may not go on for hours, it’s also important to remember that you are better off remaining concentrated (as well as alert) during the entire game, regardless of how long a game of Poker might last.

Elliots growth

Posted by Alan | Gambling,poker | Tuesday 14 October 2008 2:00 am

Counting cards can reveal that Christian Elliot has been the biggest climber up the ladder of the world Series of Poker (WSOP) leader board which is used for the main event.

The United Kingdom poker star started the 2nd day at the lofty position of 174th but slowly but surley gathered up pace and managed to get to 6th place at the end of the day.

It was recorded that the second day was a great success and Elliot made the largest jump at Victoria Casino at the centre of London’s Leicester Square.

Elliot did find himself with 231,900 chips which was only 100,000 behind the main player and leader Andy Bloch.

The other usual suspects are Eric Siedel, who was in third place after the epic action and massive jump from Elliot, and Canadian WSOP legend Daniel Negreanu, who is just behind in 9Th which means he went down.

There is 1player who actually has a title which he won at the start of the month is Danish star Theo Jorgensen, who cashed in on the £5,000 Omaha event.
