Decided to try my hand at a cash game while James was playing the Venetian. James said to play a $1 and $2 game, but wasn’t really sure what this meant so when the card room manager said they only had a free seat on a $2 and $4 limit table I thought it cant be that different. Also, when I first started to play poker I did well in limit games.

I sat down with $100. There was a nice atmosphere on the table so I felt quite relaxed. I won couple of small hands with trip 5s and KK. The players were quite loose with their money and were calling just to see what you had.

After about 2 hours I pick up JJ and put a $2 raise in. I get 5 callers. The flop comes A6J - looking good. 1 raise and get a call. I then re-raise another $8. I get one caller, the turn comes 8, I raise $4 and the other player calls. Then I get J on the river, monster hand – quad jacks! The other player checks I raise $4, he calls just to see what I’ve got, which I was hoping for but I don’t think he was expecting quad jacks.

Winning a $48 pot felt good, but unbeknown to me I also won the accumulator for hitting quad jacks which was $187. So I tripled my starting stack in my first cash game - not bad.

I left soon after, I didn’t want to push my luck.
